So the wait is finally over.
LeBron chose Philly!
The whole city stands and applauds the fact that we have not only the biggest star in the NBA, the 2nd best player of all time, the best starting 5 in basketball, and are now the #1 contender to win the NBA Championship! Just like when T.O. Decided to sign with the Eagles. Philly believes this is that 1 missing piece we need to get us over the hump. Everyone is singing LeBron songs and is pumped for the NBA season to start. Right? Nope. Not here. Not in this city. Not these sports fanatics. It’s not a small vocal minority that isn’t happy either.
| would say 30%+ are not happy about today’s news bomb. “He's too old” “we don’t need the LeBron circus” “he’s a distraction” “he will ruin the chemistry” “too many alphas on 1 team” “he didn’t choose us over the lakers last time so screw him” “he will come in and try to be GM and make us trade for his son”. These just a few of the things I've heard said while awaiting his decision.
See, Philly fans aren’t your typical fans. We expect to be let down. We assume something bad will happen. We believe the sports gods hate us. Therefore, sometimes we look past what's right in front of us and create reasons why things won't work. Which in this situation, | feel we are wrong and I'm asking all Philly fans to stop!!! See what's in front of you. A starting 5 of Joel Embiid at C, Jalen Brown at SF, LeBron James at PF, Edgecome at SG, and Maxey at PG.
All 5 playing their natural positions. 4 are Allstars and the 5th is coming off an amazing rookie season with huge upside. All the pieces fit perfectly together. LeBron isn't coming here to be the savior, or to take over the team. He is coming to win. If he wanted to be a primary scorer or ball handler he would've chosen one of the other teams. If we have to look beyond that, look at the experience he will bring. Before he signed, we were already worried about the chemistry.
How will Embiid and Maxey handle having less touches and shots now that Jalen Brown is here? LeBron brings experience in dealing with these situations. He has been through it. Both failing and succeeding. Therefore, | think it's the perfect fit and for that I am applauding the King for his decision. The only learning curve for him will be getting Booooooo'd by the home fans for the first time.
But I'm sure Embiid has the experience to help him with that.
